Te Matatini App tops entertainment ratings again
The Te Matatini App is currently ranked as New Zealand’s number one entertainment App on iOS and on Android again.

On Friday morning the App had 36,000 installs of which 30,000 were from within the last three weeks when the App went live.
With an approximate 60/40 split in favour of iOS, the app has a 4.7 star rating on the App Store, revealing it’s the place fans of Te Matatini o Te Kāhui Maunga are going to stay up-to-date with festival news, watch the action, listen to the popular Haka Translate option, and vote for their favourite performance item, as part of the new People’s Choice Award.
Carl Ross, Te Matatini Manahautū says “the App has created a pathway for non-te reo Māori speaking haka fans to connect with all of the performances on the Te Matatini stage via Haka Translate.
“We are able to connect with our audiences in real time and share kapa haka to millions now through our translation team and the App.”
The Haka Translate function will see Mandarin, Cook Islands, Fijian, Samoan and Tongan translations join the English option for those following the action on stage on finals day, Saturday 1 March 2025.
It is the second time the App has been a hit with the public, after it was the top entertainment app in Aotearoa New Zealand during Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata, Auckland in 2023.
Wi Pere Mita, Chief Operating Officer, Te Matatini Enterprises says “we have been working closely with Native Mobile to improve our earlier version and fill it with content haka fans want to have at their fingertips.”
The Voting feature is new and is proving popular with over 7,000 votes received from Te Matatini audience members.
“It’s great to hear just how well the App is going. With 36,000 installs it’s rewarding to know we’re providing haka fans an excellent experience both digitally through the App, and live at Pukekura, Bowl of Brooklands, in Ngāmotu/New Plymouth.”
One enthusiast about the app was DanielLam12345, who gave it top marks. “Matatini App is the best.”
App Store user Turanganuiakiwa was similarly impressed, leaving a five-star rating as well. “Chur 5 stars whanau.”
The Te Matatini App is free to download from the App Store or Google Play.
