There are 57 kapa haka set to perform at Te Matatini o Ngā Taniwha 2027— the largest number of competing groups in the festival’s history.
This premier stage for Maori performing arts will be held at Hopuhopu and co-hosted by Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono I te po, the people of Tainui Waka and Te Matatini.
Te Matatini o Ngā Taniwha
Programme
All 57 kapa will perform across four days of competition in one of four pools—Te Ihu, Te Haumi, Te Kei and Te Awa. The top three teams from each pool will then advance to the finals, Te Mātangirua, on day five.
