The first wānanga for our Kaiwhiriwhiri Panel for Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata Festival 2022 is scheduled to take place from 1-2 October 2021. Te Matatini Herenga Waka Herenga Tangata National Kapa Haka Festival will be held from 22 – 26 of February 2022 at Eden Park (Ngā Ana Wai) in Tāmaki Makaurau. The first kaiwhiriwhiri wānanga is likely to take place online due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 alert level restrictions. The wānanga WILL go ahead, and Te Matatini are planning to ensure this happens as planned. We will keep you all updated through our various communication streams and platforms.
Automated Judging System (AJS)
Te Matatini and partners have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to develop a fully integrated and automated-run judging system for the upcoming festival. Testing of the new AJS has been ongoing and the developers are on track to have a system ready to be trialled at either one or both of the remaining rohe whakangahau events. The kaiwhiriwhiri will go through the training of how the new AJS works at their first wānanga in October. This will determine when and how many more wānanga will need to take place.
