Te Tairawhiti under the mantle of ‘Tamararo’ host annual kapa haka competitions for Senior, Junior and Primary roopu. 2016 is the 64th consecutive year of competition and I quote from Archbishop Brown Turei who at 92 is the only surviving member of the Tamararo committee:

“we started this kaupapa over 60 years ago with Bill Kerekere. It was started to fundraise for the Mihingare Pariha”

"Tairawhiti, he aha a ko atu".

Responsibility to your rohe:

The trustees of the Tairāwhiti Cultural Development Trust Inc. are appointed to foster, develop, and protect the traditional Māori performing arts in the pursuit of excellence.

Rohe boundaries:

The Tairāwhiti boundary extends from the Mohaka River in the south to Potikirua in the north.
