Te Tairawhiti under the mantle of ‘Tamararo’ host annual kapa haka competitions for Senior, Junior and Primary roopu. 2016 is the 64th consecutive year of competition and I quote from Archbishop Brown Turei who at 92 is the only surviving member of the Tamararo committee:
“we started this kaupapa over 60 years ago with Bill Kerekere. It was started to fundraise for the Mihingare Pariha”
"Tairawhiti, he aha a ko atu".
