The Waitangi Cultural Society Inc is the body that oversees kapa haka in Tai Tokerau. Its genus harks back sixty-plus years when the annual kapa haka competitions were held at Waitangi. Cultural Icon and Tohunga Hekenukumai Busby is the rohe’s only Life Member to Te Matatini, regularly attending rohe and national kapa haka events among his many and varied activities. Tai Tokerau hosts and organises the Maranga Mai e Te Iwi regional Kapa Haka competitions – Seniors, Primary &Intermediate and Secondary Schools annually. Tai Tokerau has successfully hosted the national Senior Kapa Haka competitions in 1972, 1988, 1990 and will next host in 2029. The rohe has hosted the Te Mana Kuratahi in 2011 and the National Secondary competitions in 2012.
