Our History

Te Matatini Incorporated Society – the organisation behind the Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival – has evolved over time since the initial development in the late 1960s of Māori festivals and Polynesian events.  With several transitions in names, the society has existed since 1972 with a continued focus on fostering, developing and protecting Māori performing arts.
