What We Do
Fostering Excellence
Fostering excellence is critical to the continuous development and quality of kapa haka and Māori performing arts. There are multiple contributors to the pursuit and achievement of excellence. These include: kapa haka composers, tutors, performers and judges, administrators, national and regional committees and representatives, teachers, event managers, whanau and iwi. Their efforts ensure the essence of the art form is sustained, while continually striving for higher standards of excellence. In 2009/2010, Te Matatini will develop a strategy for fostering excellence at a local, national and international level.
Te Matatini will also coordinate two wananga:
- A wananga for kapa haka tutors and composers to support their work and development; and
- A wananga for kapa haka judges to look at judging capacity and succession planning.
